While these groups have limited international exposure they pose potential competitive threats in the longer-term, challenging global players like the newly combined Veolia and Suez.

The Indian water market’s transition from more traditional chemical treatment to membrane and filtration technologies is elevating opportunities for more technically focused foreign players. Further, the proliferation of membrane filtration globally is becoming a more cost effective water treatment solution for municipal and industrial users.

Eight key Asian Pacific private water markets outside China register the lion’s share of the pipeline, mostly made up of bulk water projects in Indonesia and the Philippines and wastewater activity in Thailand and Vietnam. Smaller Asian nations, including Singapore and Taiwan, offer niche opportunities for reference-building projects.

Water spend on semiconductor manufacturing is expected to climb to US$3.5 billion by 2030, with South Korea and Taiwan accounting for almost 50%.
