On 15 March 2022, U.S. President Joe Biden, with approval from the House and Senate, signed into law the “Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act of 2022.” The law requires critical infrastructure operators, including water and wastewater utilities and municipal governments, to report significant cyber incidents within 72 hours, and ransomware payments within 24 hours.
