On 5 January 2023, the European Union enacted the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Adopted by the European Parliament in November 2022, the directive provides a reporting standard for large companies operating in the EU to disclose metrics for emissions, water use, and associated risk management strategies.
From the outset, the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive ruling applies to approximately 50,000 companies, which is a significant increase from the current 11,700 companies mandated to report under the Non-Financial Reporting Directive.
