Water is uniquely positioned in the transition toward a lower-carbon future. Not only is it a critical input for traditional thermal power generation, oil & gas exploration, and hydropower; it is also fundamental in the deployment of emerging renewables solutions like green hydrogen. At the same time, water & wastewater utility services continue to contribute to carbon emissions, thereby necessitating greater focus on their own unique footprints. It has been estimated that water utilities account for 2% of carbon emissions, globally.
