Private Equity-backed Central States Drives Water Utility Deal Count 

Since 2016, Central States Water Resources, a Missouri-based firm has rolled up more than 50,000 customer connections and an estimated 120,000 people served through its stream of acquisitions. The newly added systems are mostly small to very small-sized in Missouri, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Central States has topped private buyers in deal count from 2019 to 2021 (year-to-date).

Washington Continues to Battle over Needed Infrastructure Investment 

On 10 August 2021, the U.S. Senate passed a US$1.2 trillion infrastructure package, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The sweeping legislation outlines funding for water & wastewater infrastructure totaling US$55 billion and is now heading to the House of Representatives for approval. In its current state, the bill would be the largest investment in water & wastewater infrastructure in U.S. history.
